Poll #2 Results: What genres of fiction do you prefer to read?

Poll #2 is over and it’s another success with results all over the place. I wanted to do this poll because I love to read fantasy, sci-fi, and Action/Adventure (with a mix of Historical Fiction and Romance here and there) and sometimes I feel like I am the only one. Maybe it comes from living with roommates who either don’t read or only read Realistic Fiction and Harlequin Romances. You start feeling alone in the literary department.

However, now I realize that many of you prefer more ‘fantastical’ works! In fact, the majority of you prefer to read Action/Adventure (15%), Sci-Fi (15%), and Fantasy (15%). I think that’s awesome. (Not that I don’t like the other genres as well. I purpose we all read all kinds of genres, but you are allowed to have a favorite.)

The next most popular genres were Thriller/Suspense (11%), Romance (11%), and Classical Literature (11%). This made sense, especially the romance. I mean, who doesn’t like a good romance on side. :)

Coming up behind the pack were Horror (7%), Comedy (4%), Historical Fiction/Period Pieces (4%), Realistic Fiction (4%), and Mystery (3%). I was actually surprised that Realistic Fiction didn’t do so well, considering that is all my roommates would read (if they even read). There are so many people out there who just can’t wrap their minds around anything that isn’t “possible,” like they didn’t know how to dream. Then again, maybe they just enjoyed it.

In dead last, was Adult Explicit (0%). Not really a surprise there. I assumed most either don’t read it or won’t admit to it.

Finally, I should mention that books can fit into more than one genre. The last book I read, “Prisoners in the Palace,” fits into Historical Fiction/Period Piece and Romance. And, the first Must Read I suggested, “Poison Study,” fits into Fantasy, Romance, Action/Adventure, and Horror. I think it’s great when a book provides so many different facets of fiction!

So, what do you think of the results? Were you surprised? Disappointed? Tell us why!
What genre is your favorite? Again, tell us why!
What genre(s) does the last book you read fit into?

Also, don't forget to vote on the NEWEST poll (Do you believe paper books will become obsolete?)! Just scroll all the way to the bottom of my blog and help contribute to the next set of results. :)

  1. Totally called it on the erotic fiction. DJPR even defended it but still did not vote on it, haha.

  2. I think eventually paper books will become obsolete, but not in the next 10 years. And on a side note, I didn't vote in the poll, shame on me. Mostly, I like to read Urban Fantasy, then fantasy, then sci-fi, then mystery, thriller, action adventure. I but Urban Fantasy in a class all by itself. Sorry :)

  4. I love fantasy too - although I also love horror and thrillers. My least faves are modern romance - yuk! Period romance however, yum. X

  5. Matt...Yes, you called it.

DocKev...No! I don't want them to become obsolete. I'll just have to buy all the books I want to read and then save them or hide them if I must! I'm not sure if I have read any Urban Fantasy. What are your favorites?

Jenny...Glad you found me and I can't wait to see you around more. Thriller/Suspense books are fun to read. What are your favorites?

Shah...I so agree! Modern romances hardly stand a chance against Period romances! Any favorites?

  6. I agree with above comment that books will become obsolete...but what a shame. I love the written word. I think I might be a bit weird...(well you probably know by now that I am strange!)but I truly like all sorts of fiction. I'll read just about anything that's out there even my husband's macho books.
Thank you for dropping by my blog and commenting...it's definitely a 'man thing'...they all must zap with the control!

  7. I read mostly fantasy, myself. Became a follower today after I saw your comment on the Bookshelf Muse's blog. It wasn't anything you said, lol, but I used to use that same Marta Dahlig painting for my avatar. LOVE IT!!

  11. Grace...ME TOO! Sometimes, when I finish a book I'll flip the pages in the book really fast, creating a fan, just so I can smell the pages one last time before I put it back on the shelf.
