New Books on my Shelf!

Like I needed anymore books, but when you hit the bargain section of one of your favorite books stores in all the world, there really is no helping it! So, I have 3 more books to add to my collection today!

Author__________ Title
Anna Carey- Eve
Stacey Jay- Juliet Immortal
As always, anyone ever heard of these titles/ authors. Thomas Hardy I know id pretty famous from his Victorian days, I'm just not sure how he reads. Do his books always end miserably like, say, Hemingway? Bittersweet like Dickens? Or happily ever after like Austen? The other two I have not heard anything on them, but the covers are gorgeous and the back sounded pretty good. Let me know!

  1. Ah, I do this so often, buy books because they're an excellent price and I'm intrigued by the cover.

    1. Yes! They drag me in all the time. Luckily, I have enjoyed most of them.

  2. I hated, hated, HATED Tess of the D'urbervilles--I know I'm an English teacher and all that, but this is one of those classics that I just avoid on principle. It was very, very depressing (and is even more bleak than Hemingway...think really early Ian McEwan), and Tess just CAN'T catch a break (think broken hearts, rape, unwanted pregnancy, betrayal, lying, etc). As for drama-filled Victorian fiction, I much prefer Wilkie Collins' "The Moonstone" or Mary Elizabeth Braddon's "Lady Audley's Secret."

I really, really hope you like it better than I did (but if you don't, at least you got it at a bargain book sale, right?!). Let us know what you think!!

    1. Oh no! I kind of noticed when I started watching the miniseries. I know, I'm being all bad and watching the miniseries before attempting to read the book. It started out great, then a really bad thing happened, then it was kind of depressing, then it got a lot better, but then there were secrets, and now everything seems to be hanging from a cliff. AND I'M ONLY HALF WAY DONE! I hope there is some positive resolution.
