Discussion Topic: Do you Reread?

If you haven't already noticed, this year my booklist has been jam packed with rereads!!! I've reread all the Hunger Games books and Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. And, currently, I am rereading The Host, Game of Thrones, Anna Karenina, and Outlander. Some of you may be wondering "What's up with that?"

I'm partial to rereading books, but not every book. It has to be one of my favorites (in which case I can read the book more than twice, three times, ten times, it really doesn't matter), or it has to be one that caught my interest, but there was something that I didn't quite get and it deserves one more read to really cement it in my mind. Another scenario would be when a movie or tv show is being made out of the book and I want to catch up again before seeing it. :)

Although, I know there are people out there that would never reread a book. Why reread when there are so many new books out there that you have yet to read? Better to have more books under your belt than a few?

Either way it's reading!!! Check out this interesting article on the 26 Benefits of Reading!

So, your turn! Do you reread? Why or why not? Do you see any benefit to rereading? To not rereading?

I'd love to hear from you!

  1. I have always been a re-reader, because even though I always have a stack of shiny, new books to read, I sometimes want the comfort of revisiting a story, or characters. For example: I recently re-read Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, and it was so much fun to rediscover it all over again (and I've read it maybe 6 times now). Sometimes, I find I need a break from what I'm reading, so I re-read something short, like a paperback fiction book or mystery. It can make me feel refreshed, and ready to get back to the new and shiny books.

I will admit that I have an advantage, in that I've always been a fast reader. I have friends who never re-read book, because they read slowly -- and they don't want to spend time on a re-read, which I completely understand. Re-reading, for me, is part of being a book junkie. :)

    1. I agree with that. It is comforting to revisit some of my favorite titles.

I am a fellow book junkie!

  2. I definitely reread - not every book - but my favorite books. Largely because I forget things, but also because I think my enjoyment grows each time I read a book :)

    1. I like when I notice things I missed the first time I read the book. :)

  3. I agree with Jo's comment. sometimes re reading is to do with revisiting favourite characters and places and incidents.

I used to re read mostly favorurite books, but this year I am rereading just to keep up with the competition on your challenge Aubrie.:D

    1. I like that. Like taking a trip back to an old haunt.

  4. I have in the past but not for ages. Not because I wouldn't like to. But it's difficult to reread when there are so many in my TBR pile :) X

    1. I get that. I have books building up again on my window sill. I promised that when I moved I would only bring about 10 of my 200+ books. I ended up taking about 20 of them and I just got a $30 gift card to Barnes and Noble and I went online and bout 5 more. :)

  5. AA: I am a rerererereader. It bothers me sometimes, because I feel like I am missing out on other books. I have just begun Hunger Games.

    1. Nice! You're going to have to come back here and let me know what you think when you are done. I just got done reading all of them for the second time!

  6. I'm one of those people that never reread books and for the exact reason you mentioned -- why read a book I've already read when there are so many new ones out there? I have to admit, though, that I did reread both HUNGER GAMES and CATCHING FIRE before I read MOCKINGJAY since I wanted to make sure I remembered the whole story :) Other than that, I NEVER reread.

    1. Nice. I'm a big rereader, but what usually happens is what is happening now. I start rereading a lot at the same time and then I get stuck. lol. Honestly, most of the books I am rereading will probably get thrown aside and I'll start reading new ones at the speed of light again.

I think I am actually slower when I reread because there is no real incentive to rush to the end because you know what happens. Unless you forget, which was the case with the hunger games trilogy. I think I forgot almost all of the 3rd book. I knew I had to reread it when people were saying things to me and I was like, "WHAT? That happened?" lol.

  7. I do reread, especially Harry Potter, and the thing about it is that every time I read (or reread, rather), I find new things, and I realize that I relate to them differently every single time I read. The best thing is reading books I read when I was a kid and finding all sorts of subtle jokes that I'd never even noticed before. It's like reliving a really nice experience, only, everything's better.

    1. Yes, I agree. I can't wait to reread Harry Potter in 10 years and see how I relate to it then.

  8. I rarely re-read. I feel like there are too many other books I do want to read instead. I am rereading the Time Traveler's wife and there are some other books I would probably reread too.

    1. Sounds good. I've never read The Time Treaveler's Wife. I saw the movie, but didn't like it. I know others who have loved the book though.

  9. If you need to smoke, try delaying it. Whatever you can do to delay smoking will help, so take a walk, drink some water or lie down. Often, you will find that just giving your mind some time and something to occupy itself with you will be able to get past the craving without having to smoke. If you desire to smoke a cigarette, the delay could cause you to smoke one less cigarette that day.satta king
