Another Look!

And, again, I am playing with my blog design. For those of you who saw the pink poppies that I had before, let me know if you like this design better. This is certainly more subdued, a bit more sophisticated, and WAY purple! (as opposed to pink like last time.) Note: I have not changed the colors of the side buttons yet. They won't have the pink/salmon border, but a purple or grey border.

If you missed the pink poppies, NEVER FEAR! Your opinion is just as valuable. Just let me know what you think of this particular, VERY purple design.

The old design kind of looked like this. The same background, but a different title color, more purple, and a semi-transparent background where this is a solid grey.

Thanks for your inputs!

A NEW LOOK!

I guess I didn't feel like waiting until after the Holidays to begin this little project. I might still change my mind, but for now, this is what I got! The entire layout has been changed, including removing things that I really didn't need. I love the colors, but I still want to make a new heading and revert some of the old pages to fully match the new design.

So, what do you think? Too pink? lol.

Maybe this will help me forget about winter! It is a very Spring-like design. :)

OH BOY! Do I Really Want to do This AGAIN!!!

Sooooooooo! I was thinking about performing another blog makeover. I'm pretty sure it has been almost EXACTLY one year since the last one!

I just feel like it is time for a change once again. I might even just go to one of the generic templates that Blogger has designed for you. Maybe?

I just know that something has to happen. I am tired of the black and white border mostly (GAWD! That took forever to create!) I still like all my buttons on the side. I could use the same ones, but change up the color. That really wouldn't be too bad.

Hmmmm!

Any suggestions?!?!
Color ideas?
A template you really like?
A place you go to get your template? (Preferably free.)
So in love with the current thing you just couldn't bear to see it gone?

I'm really open to just about anything.

Let me know!

Curious? How is my blog loading these days?

Who's Your Editor? has grown a lot in the last few months and I feel like now it's not loading as fast as it should. At first, I blamed my computer (it is ever so old), then I blamed my newest upgrade to Internet Explorer 9 (or whatever update we are on), but now, I am thinking that perhaps my blog has too much on the first page. My biggest problem has been that the scrolling is not smooth. Then again, this isn't just happening on my blog, but on other pages as well, like my Etsy store.

So, I turn to you. What do you think? Is the page loading for you? Any suggestions?

Thanks for all you help!!!

IT WORKED!!! My blog has it's own app!

Here's the deal! You can create an app for your blog to be used on either iphone or droid, and the best part, it's free!
First off, come and get my app! The first thing you have to do is go to your app store and down load the Bloapp (it's also free.) Or, you can visit either of these links and download it onto your computer to later sync with your phone...
1) iPhone app: http://itunes.apple.com/my/app/bloapp/id436962200?mt=8
2) Android app: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.infindo.bloapp.activities
After you have downloaded the app onto your phone either search for my blog Who's Your Editor?, or scan my QR code to the right here ---->

Now, you have my blog app on your phone!!!
Secondly, how do you get your own app for your blog???
Just visit this website...http://www.bloapp.com/index..., click sign up now, follow the easy directions, and I will be more than happy to get your app as well!
Looking forward to seeing all your blogs in app form!!!

HEY! There's an APP for that! ("That" being MY BLOG!)

Yes, that's right! I am currently trying to build an app for my blog!

I was playing with my phone the other day, after an entire afternoon/night of trying to update itunes and my phone (thank you very much MAC! You're an absolute joy to work with...NOT!!!) But, it did update and I remembered why I love my phone. Then, I thought, I need an app for my blog. I got more serious about the idea and began to wonder if it was actually possible and FREE to do.
So far, so good! I have found a couple of websites that say it is possible. So, I am going to try a few different ways of doing it and hopefully I will have something up and running soon. Maybe even TODAY!!! Then, I can share my blog app with all you iphone/droid/??? users in a whole new way. Plus, I will tell you how to do it yourself so you can try it too!

I hope it works! Cross your fingers for me!

It's been 11 months! And you all know what that means! There are only two more months to:

A. Read as many books as you possibly can.
B. Join in the challenge if you still haven't done so (you only have to know how many books you have read this year and build a list of them somewhere/anywhere on your blog.)
C. Scream and cry because you're never going to beat me.
D. Scream with joy because you are so far aheadof me that there is no way I will ever catch up.
E. Some combination of the above.

Either way, I hope you are enjoying all the books you have been finishing and I wish you luck in these final months!

Bookmark Break Challenge (7 Month Update!)

We are now more than half way through this crazy competition! I know I have been pretty MIA here, but the competition is still on and many of you have not put down those books for even a second!!!

Let's see where everyone is at, shall we?

This button is up for grabs:

GET THE CODE AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE!

Here are the standings for the competition thus far...
Thank you! and remember...SAVE THE BOOKMARKS!

COMPETITOR'S LIST:
Wow! In these last few months the standings have made a few little shifts! That's what I like to see!

Susan is still holding on tightly to the number one spot with 88 books! She also has a very nice countdown for Cassandra Clare's new book on her blog. That was interesting because I just completed "City of Bones" by Cassandra Clare this weekend!

Poekitten has stolen the number two with her 62 books read. I also love the new look on her blog!

Rose is now in third with 47 books. Although, I may be recieving an update from her that may shake the standings once again!

Shah has taken my fourth place with 36 books. She is also on a neat little website called Shelfari! She turned me onto thgis website early in the year and we both use it. Here's her link if you want to check out the website and become friends with her on the website! http://www.shelfari.com/shahw1/shelf

Kyria is in fifth with 31 books. It looks like she is loving L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables  series. I would love to read those sometime.

Natalie is in sixth with 30 books. She just read a Caroline B. Cooney book. At one point, when I was in middle school, I read almost all of her books! I especially loved her Both Sides of Time trilogy!
I am currently in seventh place with 29 books. I have been reading quite a bit, but I got myself into some pretty daunting books. Young Adult! Here I come! I need some ultimate leisure reading! Also, here is my shelfari link. Friend me! http://www.shelfari.com/o1514210506/shelf
In eigth is Michelle wih 22 books. She's really been climbing the competition ladder these last few months!

Women's Right to Shoes and Selena are both in ninth with 15 books.

The Creative Muslimah is in tenth place with 8 books and has been one of the only contestants to really reach into non fiction reading.

In eleventh is dtwilight with 7 books. She has read A Little Princess which I love!

In twelfth is Patrick with 5 books. He really seems to like reading books multiple times! He's read The Hobbit 3 times and Silmarillion 4 times. I too like to read books multiple times (especially Harry Potter!)

Moana is in thirteenth place with 4 books. She has been reading a lot of Neil Gaiman's books so if there are any fans out there, Moana would be a good person to discuss some of his works with. I know The Creative Muslimah has read Coraline!

Finally, Alissa is in fourteenth place with 3 books. She also has a very nice review of the new/final Harry Potter movie that discusses some great points about deciding whether or not the new movie is appropriate for your children or not. :)

Great stuff guys! Keep it up! Send me any updates that you have for your list or just stop by to chat!

Also, here is the link to the official page for the competition. There yu can keep track of the standings and see the list of all the books that I have read thus far.  http://whosyoureditor.blogspot.com/p/bookmark-break-challenge_18.html

WYE?s Bookmark Break Challenge (3 Month Update)!

OK! It's already April and that means that it is time for our 3 month update!!! Just remember, anyone can still join. You just have to click on the button below, read through all the rules (there's only a couple), let me know you want to join, and get reading! VERY SIMPLE! Anyway, onto the current standings!

Starting at the bottom, we have a good pack! Michelle, dtwilight, The Creative Muslimah, Patrick, Moana, and Alissa have been real troopers and very consistent. Slow and steady wins the race guys! In the middle, we have myself, Kyria, Shah, Selena, Natalie, and A Woman's Right to Shoes. These here are my girls! They read just as much as I do and we have all been fighting to get  ahead of each other! At the very top, almost impossibly so, is Rose, Susan, and Poekitten. These girls are amazing, whipping out the books left and right. I am so proud of them!

Until next month!

Busy is the Watchword

I figured it was probably about time to inform everyone on what the he** has been going on! However, let me note, I can not do that in one word. I have been busy, busy, BUSY!
It started a couple weeks ago when every single one of my classes decided to assign an essay, each being due with days of each other (two on the same day). Well, I got them all back this week. I got 3 100%! and 1 B. (Way to ruin the perfect trend Science Fiction and Fantasy class!)

Now, I have to finish my Shakespeare journal, edit some manuscripts, study for my midterm in World Literature, and rewrite the B essay in Science Fiction and Fantasy.

Then, my computer not only got one piece of malware, but TWO! Then, I later found a trojan there as well. BLAH! :( (All clean now, though!)

Next, I decided to sign up for a vendor's booth at a music festival. (This could quickly turn into 2 or 3 festivals depending on who is still accepting applications and a pretty check!) So, I'm working my darling fingers to their nubs (Let me tell you! Never pay for a manicure when you are planning on going all Becky Thatcher/Harry Winston for the weekend!) making recycled notebooks, earrings, necklaces, pendants, bracelets (new), sun catchers (new), and whatever else comes to mind!

Also, the most lovely Chief Operating Officer at the Chamber of Commerce just discussed a possible opportunity at a special effects studio. I can't say much about it right now. It's my newest venture, but I hope to have more insights soon!

Finally, I'm spending lots and lots of time with family. My grandma has breakfast every Sunday at her house, a cousin of mine is having a new baby soon, and we're all just rallying around each other. In fact, I am taking two of my cousins to the movie Beastly tomorrow! and one of my best friends and her sister are coming along. We'll all go out to dinner and then go see the movie! Also, I'm taking a trip to Atlanta to see my Aunt and Uncle and their kids over Spring Break so I will be out for that whole week.

All in all, it's been pretty good. The only thing I miss is not blogging every day. I will try, though! :)

So, fill me in on what has been going on! I want to know everything!

WYE?’s Bookmark Break Challenge (1 Month Update)

Just over 1 month ago, I challenged you (and you and you and YOU!) to finish reading all the books you had started, freeing your bookmarks from their black and white prisons! Then, I asked you to read even more! As many as you can in the year 2011! So far, 10 of you have stepped up to the plate and are kicking my butt!!! (Keep it up and by the end of the year, I will be featuring your blog and posting your button on my main page for 1 whole year!)

And there is still time to join up (ahem! To everyone who has yet to accept the challenge!) Just check out this post here…WYE?'s Bookmark Break Challenge 2011!

It’s been just over one month and I cannot even describe how excited I have been, watching the book lists grow and grow and grow!!! Now, it is time to update everyone on your progress. Here are the standings as of RIGHT NOW…

Way to go!

Susan has been dominating the lead, but Rose, a recent entry (who will be posting her reading list once a month), may give her a run for her money! Selena has also been right up there as well. Poekitten and Natalie seem well matched. They both read tons right off the bat. I am floating quite happily in the middle, mostly going back and forth with the lovely Shah. And Alissa, The Creative Muslimah, Michele, and Patrick have been a good solid base. I imagine there may be some dark horse there. :)

All in all, we are having the best time! I am am just thrilled to be tracking everyone's progress. Let me note that if you click on any of the names above, they are direct links to their reading list so you can see what they have been reading. And, here's my list do you can see what I have been up to as well...
  1. The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening and The Struggle
  2. A Midsummer Night's Dream
  3. The Metamorphosis
  4. Frankenstein
  5. The Merchant of Venice
  6. Death in Venice
My list also provides a list of links to the amazon pages for each of there reads. (PS. Be lookiing out for book reviews soon. I got a little behind, but I'm working on writing them.)

Well, I look forward to more reading and more competitors signing up! Again, if you are curious, just check out this post...WYE?'s Bookmark Break Challenge 2011! This post fills you in on what I was thinking, how to sign up, and all the rules (PS. There's only 2 rules.) Honestly, the more the merrier and you have absolutely nothing to lose, but all the world to gain through reading.

Until next month!

A Celebration for 200 Followers!

Who thought it would only take a few months to reach 200 followers!? I am thrilled beyond compare and I wish to celebrate it with all of you.

In the last few weeks I have seen some blogs doing some truely wonderful things to expose their followers (in only the best ways, of course) and I wish to do the same. So, I propose this...

The very first "WYE? Weekend Wonders!" Every person on this planet is a wonder, a creature of strange curiosities, interesting characteristics, and enthusiastic opinions that they wish to share or we wish to uncover. Every Saturday and Sunday, I wish to introduce you to these kinds of people, but it is all up to you if you want to be featured in the first place.

Here's how things shall procede...

1. Tell me in the comments (or email me at RedMatinee7007@aol.com) that you would like to be a Weekend Wonder!
2. In that same message, give me your email address as well.
3. I will send you a questionaire. (Every questionaire will be just about the same for everyone (the main parts focusing on reading and writing) so that we may see the true diversity in each and every person.)
4. Fill out the questionaire as soon as you can and send it back to me.
5. I will set up a schedule and let you know when you will be featured. Then, watch every Saturday and Sunday to read the other features!

Does that sound like a good plan? I certainly hope so!

NOW, let me know if you want to be featured (and leave me an email) and I will get a questionaire out to you in tip-top-shape!

WELCOME BACK!

Well, it’s over with. Who’s Your Editor? has had a pretty significant facelift and I am proud to say that I have done it all on my own. (Take that graphic design major!) :). The best part, though, is that I can get back to blogging! I have a lot planned and I hope my busy schedule will allow me to keep up.

With that being said, I do want to let you guys know that I may not be blogging every day like I have been. As much as I want to, I already have a pretty hefty homework schedule with school. (This weekend alone, I have to write a 1 page essay (FINISHED), a 2 page essay, I have to read A Midsummer Night’s Dream (FINISHED), half of Frankenstein, 3 chapters  in creative writing, and 37 pages in world literature.) Not completely fun. Anyway, I will aim to blog in my free time.

In the mean time, come check out the new features!

New Features:

Different Color Scheme- Red/Gray/Black
Lighter background- Found on blogger
New Header- Made it myself!
Pages!- To help relieve the clutter
Home- This will bring you back to the main screen and the almost daily blog posts.

Also, if you are a follower and I haven’t grabbed your button yet, shoot me a message and I will come get it.

Shutting Down for a Makeover!

For those of you who may have missed the news, I'm giving my blog a makeover! So, if you are stopping in during the chaos, DON'T PANIC! Everything should be in order by the end of the week!

Isn't it just crazy what you can do with a computer?

I'm shutting down from Monday (today) until Friday (January 21). I'll see you all on Saturday!

Friday, January 14, 2011

Alas, I Did Not Win :(

So, the giveaway for the blog makeover has ended and some other lucky girl has won. I honestly can't wait to see what it ends up looking like, but this also means that I have to do my own blog design. So, I say again, I will be shutting down the blog, from MONDAY until FRIDAY this coming week!

During that time, I will be changing the background, font, all the colors, adding pages, making everything pretty and legible! YEAH! LET'S HAVE A PARTY!

For you today, I also have a list of things I came up with to consider when redesigning your blog (if perchance you ever find yourself in the same situation)...

1) Relevance...Over the last few days, I have been scanning the templates and trying to find images I could use. I found many pretty pictures and designs that I loved, but were they relevant to the theme of my blog? NO! Does that mean that the only kinds of images I can use are books and pens? NO. It just means that my template should not distract or mislead followers about the content of my blog. It should work with the content.

2) Clutter...I find this to be an epidemic in the blogging world. So many blogs suffer from clutter, bordering on HOARDING! I do not feel like we should be afraid to clean house every now and then or design our blog in a way (either by adding pages or just by removing some gadgets or buttons) that our home page can be clear of gobblygook that new followers will not understand. Also, the less clutter, the faster your blog will load.

3) Text Font...Text Font is vitally important because that's what your followers have to stare at all the time! I find that San Serif is better than Serif (For those of you who think I just started speaking a different language, that means that type that has straight, clean lines with no small features or end strokes (such as Arial), are better than fancy fonts or fonts that have end strokes (such as Times New Roman). Also, as the number one rule of graphic design states "Only use headline fonts for headlines and text font for text!"

4) Personalize Your Design...A great way to have a successful blog it to have one that looks unique and unlike any of your friends'. This doesn't mean you can't use the templates that Blogger.com or whatever other host website you are in provides. It just means that you should be tweaking it, change the color, the text, the background image, etc.

That's about it. If I think of anything else in my process, I will let you guys know! :)

PS. Don't forget to vote on the most recent poll at the bottom of the page. This poll will end while I am shut down, but when I return, I will be revealing the results, and if I have all your votes, the results will be all the better.

PPS. REMEMBER: I will be shut down MONDAY through FRIDAY! There will be NO POSTS during that time, just a whole lot of CHAOS! I will be changing the blog around all the time, so you can come and check things out, but it will be crazy, crazy, CRAZY!

PPPS. PLEASE return on SATURDAY! (not tomorrow's Saturday, but the Saturday after that) when I start posting again and you can see the complete blog design! (You can come by on tomorrow's Saturday though because I will be posting as usual.)

PPPPS. See you guys tomorrow and Sunday and then it is Adios! for 5 days.

PPPPPS. Is that clear? Are you tired of the post scripts yet?

I NEED A BLOG MAKEOVER!!!

It has come to my attention that my blog is quickly becoming the leading cause of blindness!!! Okay, not so dramatic, but it is difficult to read.

One of my friends on WEbook mentioned it the first day and I was like "Ughhh! I just finished designing it!!!" I was NOT going to do it all again. However, yesterday, THREE lovely people mentioned it again. The type is too hard to read :(

So, I NEED A BLOG MAKEOVER! Luckily, Lindsay over at Scenic Glory is a fantabulous blog designer and is offering ONE lucky duck the chance to have their blog made over by her. For the Love of Blogs is hosting the giveaway because they too are fantabulous.

Thus begins the reasons why I need a blog makeover (in full dramatic prose):

My dearest Lindsay and lovely ladies at For the Love of Blogs, I fear my blog is in trouble. The mobs are collecting and demand my blog take responsibility for the multitudes of headaches it is causing my wonderful followers. Some are nearly going blind because the white font over a black background is severely hard to read. I did not mean it! Honestly! I just love the color black, its sleekness and its ability to make other colors pop! However, the masses are speaking, voicing their concerns for not only their eyesight, but my own well being. My blog has become a part of me and I do not wish to lose it.

Tirelessly, I have wondered where to start again. I open the design tab and stare blankly at the screen. Would a green background be better? Should I design my own header? Perhaps the font is just too small? Should I add another page? The options are overwhelming and my skills are not up to par.

Dearests, I can hear the mob at the door. They are banging louder and louder! I know it is merely out of passion, but I fear that if they are not answered, if nothing is to be done, that passion will turn to something near obsession, and later nothing will soothe their cries but to see my blog hanging from the metaphorical gallows of the Internet. Just the thought is enough to make me tremble. For then, how will I share my words, my ideas, my melodramas of rants and woes? I will undoubtedly be forced to return solely to Webook.com where they only care for poetry and fiction and not the fantastic stylings of grammar, etymology, art weeks, book reviews, cinematic features, and my own personal enthusiasms. Please, don't banish me to such a limited fate!

Sincerely,
AubrieAnne

(End dramatic prose)

Well, there you go! It's a one shot dealio and the winner is sure to be one happy little blogger! Cross your fingers for me as I will undoubtedly do the same for you!

PS. The giveaway ends on the 12th so I am going to hold off any of my own experimenting with my blog design until then. Then, if the 12th comes around and some other beautiful soul has won Lindsay's generous offer I will plan a few days to shut down so I can play around a bit. That way you guys don't have to deal with the chaos. Plus, if I am not posting, perhaps I can come up with something sensible.

PPS. It's good to have a plan B, but plan A sounds so much more fun!

Discussion Topic: Let's Start a Revolution! New Followers! Better Followers!

There's been a lot of talk going around about this and now I think it's time to do something about it!

Let me just say that I adore new followers (I think most bloggers do and we all secretly compete to have more followers than any of our friends…Don’t lie!) I also love followers who comment. However, there is one thing that I personally love more: followers that comment and express their thoughts in relation to the blog that I wrote that day!!!

Are you the best kind of follower? Are you tired of the "following you, follow me back" comment? Then, here's a special gift just for you. The "follow me if you dare" button designed by Your's Truely! Post it on your blog, declaring your independence from the not-so-good followers. (I know! I have been a button fool!)
Code:
<a href="http://whosyoureditor.blogspot.com/2011/01/discussion-topic-lets-start-revolution.html"><img border="0" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5208/5328572429_86d18d5b32_m.jpg"width="200" height="200"></a>

Why spend the time, writing out your precious words, only to have them ignored? Why discuss the things you love, only to have no one reply? Why try to inspire people, when no one cares to listen? These questions just don’t make sense, because there is no reason “why?” Blogging is about sharing your words, passions, and inspirations, and having people discuss them with you. If this wasn’t true, and the above questions were legitimate, no one would blog (or at least they wouldn’t be blogging for very long).

Ergo…

Why follow someone if you’re not going to read what they are writing? Why comment if you’re not going to tell people something about you, discuss a topic, or add your ideas? Why become a follower that just says you are following (way to state the obvious), and then expect someone to put in more effort than you did? Once again, these questions don’t make sense. So, why do some people still comment “following you, follow back” without any other considerations? The comment is empty, emotionless, thoughtless.

At first, the comments didn’t bother me. At least people WERE commenting, correct? However, then I met some truly wonderful people that showed me what it meant to be a good follower. They returned on a regular basis, at least once a week. (Sometimes, almost every day. :)) They left comments of support, comments of interest, comments of love, and all the time, allowing me to learn more and more about them.

The more I was exposed to the “best kind” of follower, the more I was annoyed and frustrated by the “not-so-good kind” of follower.

So, if you are reading this Miss/Mister Not-So-Good-Follower, please rethink how you are presenting yourself. For all I know, you are a person full of thoughts, opinions, and love. Start proving it! (PS. I will remain patient, calm, and kind while you figure it out, but that doesn’t mean I’m not seething inside.)

Now, in honor of Miss/Mister Best Kind of Follower, here is a list of people who comment and mean it! In alphabetical order:

Introducing the Official WYE? Blog Button!

I finally finished and I LOVE it! I hope you guys like it as well and will consider grabbing it for your very own!

Here's the code... <ahref="http://whosyoureditor.blogspot.com/"><img border="0"src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5244/5321826666_a57da2fae9_m.jpg"width="200"height="200"></a>

When I initially began college, I wanted to be an art major so I went for graphic design because I figured it would be more marketable than a fine arts degree. Anyway, I spent most of my time yelling at the computer, trying to get it to do what I could do with a pencil in 5 seconds! So, I switched to a psychology major and then finally an English major! I did find the same frustrations while making this button, but it was fun this time. :) No pressure and no grading!

Anyway, it's my new baby.

Feel free to share the codes to your own buttons and maybe someone will come pick it up!
